Rational Pesticide Use addresses the growing concern among scientists, farmers, and the general public that pesticides are being applied ever more widely but with less and less discretion. Twenty-six contributors drawn from a wide range of disciplines discuss how crop protection chemicals can be used more rationally so as to maximize benefits in yield and quality while minimizing environmental and economic costs. The book is based on the Ninth Long Ashton Symposium and is organized into four sections: environment, application, resistance, and forecasting and pest management. The resulting volume will interest a wide range of readers, from those interested in crop protection as producers, to those engaged in crop research, or those concerned more generally with the environmental consequences of pesticide use.
