Reprinted 2001 by The Lawbook Exchange, Ltd. LCCN 00-067586. ISBN 1-58477-140-2. Cloth. $250. Reprint of the final authorial edition published in Philadelphia during Adams' [1735-1826] presidency. His important defense of the Constitution played an important role in the development of American political theory. He calls for a doctrine of the separation of powers, a system of checks and balances, and a legislature of two houses. The work's timely publication and thesis influenced the delegates to the Constitutional Convention of 1787. Written and originally published in London in 1787 while Adams was serving at the Court of King James. With a list of subscribers to the work that included Senators and congressmen and other political personages of the time. See Dictionary of American Biography I:77, 81.
