Mark Scott's Reinspiring the Corporation is a thoughtful, literate proposal for harnessing a company's collective human energy to meet the future needs of its stakeholders. Scott, a marketing communications executive and former international management consultant, notes the business world has undergone "seven waves of change" over a short period: the quality movement, downsizing, core competencies and outsourcing, reengineering, mergers and acquisitions, networking, and empowerment. With the "evolving knowledge movement" now ushering in "an age where the only significant capital is intellectual," Scott writes, the time is right to reinspire our corporations. And the way to do this is by fostering in their employees a shared vision based upon tenets derived from the world's seven great religions: Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, and Islam. These faith-inspiring principles like "refocusing the corporation on collective outcomes" and "embedding a shared corporate heritage" are addressed in individual chapters. In the latter, for example, Scott explains why a company's history is important and how it can be used to help cultivate "a sense of continuity--a heritage that the core constituents of the company can call their own."
