Book Description
Central Bank to the European Union outlines and discusses the structure of the new central bank: The European Monetary Institute (EMI), the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) and the European Central Bank (ECB). These three will form the institutional basis of the EMU. The EMI is already established (January 1, 1994), and will serve as the interim entity to prepare the final system. Since the Maastricht Treaty forms the main basis for the EMU, its provisions are outlined and discussed, as are subsidiary and complementary materials from the Council of Ministers and the European Council. These include the decisions and regulations relating to the existing European Monetary System (EMS). The book further includes other detailed information on the structure, functions and tasks of the new system and its main components. It also provides background information on the EM and the existing ecu (personal and official), and a comprehensive appendix containing the most important materials on the EMU.
