About the Author
Dr. Thomas H. Sawyer
Dr. Sawyer is a professor of Physical Education, Recreation and Sport Management at Indiana State University. He has authored or co-authored seven books. He is past President of various state and national associations: past President, Indiana branch of the American Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance and the American Association of Active Lifestyles and Fitness. He is editor of the Indiana AHPERD Journal, and former editor of the Journal of the Legal Aspects of Sport, and Dance's Law Review.
Dr. Sawyer has been honored many times by his peers, the latest being the 2003 AAALF Honor Award and the 2004 AAHPERD Honor Award.
Dr. Sawyer is President of the Indiana Center for Sport Education (ICSE). It provides the following services; coaching education seminars, risk management and liability seminars, sport and recreation safety consultation, and risk management audits.
Dr. Michael G. Hypes
Dr. Hypes is Assistant Professor of Sport Management at Morehead State University.
He has written chapters for five textbooks and has presented at the state, regional, national and international levels.
He has served as Chair of the National Council on Facilities and Equipment, member of the Board of Directors for the American Association for Active Lifestyles and Fitness, and as assistant editor of Indiana AHPERD Journal and Newsletter, the Journal of the Legal Aspects of Sport, and the Tennessee AHPERD Journal.
Ms. Julia Ann Hypes
Ms. Hypes earned a MSS in Sport Management from the US Sports Academy. She has worked as Sports Information Director at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
She has held positions in facility/event management, team travel, budgeting and fund raising at the college level. Ms. Hypes has written chapters for textbooks and has presented at the state, regional, national and international levels.
Julia Ann Hypes is an Assistant Professor of Sport Management at Morehead State University.
